Oklahoma wide receiver Trejan Bridges and running back Seth McGowan are considered suspects in a robbery currently under investigation by the Norman Police Department, as reported by multiple outlets Saturday.
Several NPD officers apprehended Bridges at approximately 10:45 p.m. Thursday night less than a mile from campus, and police on the scene disclosed that the redshirt sophomore wide receiver had been detained in connection with an alleged robbery involving firearms at the Crimson Park apartment complex. Bridges was unaccompanied at the time of his detainment.
The Norman Police Department told OUInsider that officers had responded to reports of said robbery shortly after 10:00 p.m., and said that one person had been injured but was not hospitalized. NPD emphasized that no arrests have been made yet, and Bridges was released from police custody upon questioning.
This isn’t Bridges’ first scrape, as he missed all but two games of the 2020 season as he served a suspension related to a positive drug test. The former blue-chip recruit, who hails from the DFW metroplex, signed with the Sooners alongside fellow elite wideouts Jadon Haselwood and Theo Wease with the class of 2019. Many expected the trio to comprise one of the most dangerous receiving corps in the nation, but that vision hasn’t yet come to fruition due to Bridges’ suspension and Haselwood’s struggles with injuries.
Over his first two seasons as a Sooner, Bridges reeled in nine total passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. He’d earned rave reviews throughout the spring of 2021, as quarterback Spencer Rattler called Bridges a “mismatch” and touted their chemistry throughout spring practices. Bridges himself expressed that he was in the best physical shape of his life.
Meanwhile, McGowan burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2020, scoring two touchdowns in his first game as a Sooner and closing the year with 143 total yards on four touches in Oklahoma’s 55-20 victory over Florida in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. He signed with the Sooners in the class of 2020 as a four-star recruit.
McGowan and Bridges have been suspended by the Oklahoma football program pending investigation. A Norman Police Department representative told OUInsider that detectives are gathering the facts of the case and should have updates in the coming days.
